Manual therapy is an effective technique for releasing and re-mobilising muscles which may have stiffened due to injury or inactivity. At Victoria Park Physiotherapy, we employ both manipulative therapy and remedial massage depending on what is most beneficial for the patient. Manipulative therapy, including trigger-point therapy, is used specifically to target those joints and muscles which need to be mobilised, while remedial massage is employed to improve overall circulation and ease stiffness. Both of these approaches aim to decrease pain and increase function and mobility.
At Victoria Park Physiotherapy, we understand that is important to remain fit and healthy no matter what stage of life you may be in, and our goal is to increase each patient’s fitness and well-being. However, we know that injury can occur whether you play sport as an occasional hobby, for recreation or on a professional level. Our head physiotherapist, Robin, has extensive experience in the treating various sports injuries at recreational and elite levels. In our clinic, each injury will be assessed and treated on an individual basis, and our physiotherapist/s will implement a treatment and exercise plan based on each patient’s specific requirements.
No matter how regularly you may visit doctors, physiotherapists and other health care professionals, we realise that ultimately, each individual is responsible for their own care and well-being. At Victoria Park Physiotherapy we recognise that it is our responsibility to diagnose your injury, treat it, and to make sure you have the necessary skills to maintain the highest level of function and ease, after treatment has ceased. At our clinic, we not only teach you with the necessary tools for prevention, but we tailor specific exercise programmes for each step of your recovery and to help you maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
In cases of acute back injury, many of the muscles which support the lumbar spine, and which are integral to mobilisation, may become tighter than normal. In the few weeks following the injury, it may be difficult to use these muscles as effectively as before, which may cause pain, restrict movement and decrease your level of function. In such circumstances hydrotherapy may be recommended by the physiotherapist. Hydrotherapy takes place in a heated pool which promotes muscle relaxation and supports the spine. Each patient will be given their own exercises which will be performed under the guidance of our physiotherapists.
